Class01 - comin' out swingin'!

Thanks for a great effort Saturday afternoon to nearly complete the two form-finding boxes. We're all anxious to start testing on wed. night at 7:15. Be sure to bring in 5 precedent/inspirational images. We'll have fabric and fishing line ready to go. UdB Publication - A Case Study in Forming Collaborative Service-Learning Initiatives

An essay, written by Kyle Sturgeon as a component of the Boston Architectural College's 'Design Education Certificate Program,' will be published by the Indiana University Press in the spring of 2009. UdB Featured at Design Exchange - Toronto

This presentation board showcasing the 2007 and 2008 UdB projects will be featured during the 'Carrot City' design exhibition beginning February 25th.

NeR+D* Collaborates with UdB

Directors Evan Greenberg (BS. MSc., London, UK) and Jon Mickle (BS. MArch, Philidephia, PA) of Network Research + Design (NeR+D*) will act as consultants/guest critics for the 2009 UdB Workshop. Evan brings to the table his advanced knowledge of parametrics, ruled surfaces and membranes from work at the Architectural Association, while Jon offers considerations of beauty, ornament, and complexity in today's cultural and political context as part of his ongoing work at the University of Pennsylvania.

We will interface with Evan and Jon (bi)weekly via video conference throughout the semester.

UdB Research Published in Education Book

Indiana University will feature an independent research paper written by Kyle Sturgeon entitled 'Urban designBUILD: Forming Collaborative Service-Learning Initiatives' in a publication slated for December 2009 completion. The ICC (Indiana Campus Collaborative) states:

'The primary purpose of this book, is to help professors and college and university administrators develop service-learning courses.'

Nomadic Canopies Spring 2009 Workshop

JOIN US this semester as we design + construct a canopy structure for two distinct neighborhoods of Boston, part of the ongoing design/build program at the BAC.

'We will design and construct a shared nomadic [traveling + temporary + adaptable] canopy that addresses the parameters of three diverse sites. The studio will first focus on form finding through model making and material testing. We will then address issues of modularity and [dis]assembly, with strong emphasis on the research and implementation of digital technologies. Students will investigate the integration of photovoltaic for light emission, sound generation, and operability in addition to space making and aesthetics.'
